Nokia has really done an excellent job of reaching out to bloggers and fans for the launch of the N97 – especially in India. Besides actually sending reps to the doorsteps of Indian residents interested in the N97 to demo the device, they invited bloggers to meet with the lead designer of the N97, Axel Meyer. A few weeks back I told you that my pal Aditya was going to meet with him to pick his brain about the N97. Sure enough he pulled through and got some answers and insight about the design of Nokia’s newest flagship device.
After reading through the entire article I picked out my favorite part to show you all. Axel covered the topic of content creation and how the huge storage capacity will allow you to create as much content as you like.
Aditya recalled from the meeting,
The 48 gigabytes of space on the phone allows the user to store 100s of full length movies, 1000s of photos and songs, and loads of information. It allows you to preserve the memories of where have you been, where you are right now and where will you go from here.
Content creation – Movies and photographs was another area that Axel highlighted in his presentation, he mentioned quite a many baffling statistics, let me rattle them off, this will probably help in understanding the reasons for making the N97 a content creating device.
1. By 2012, more than 25% of the content generated will come from people who are not a part of media groups.
2. 1.9 billion people are uploading photos on Facebook.
3. 2.4 billion people have been ‘tagged’ in these photos.
Those are some extremely staggering numbers.
A perfect example of this is coming up in a few weeks I will be seeing the British pop/soul singer live at the Hollywood bowl. Surely I will be taking a ton of pictures and even more video of the night and sharing it live with friends. Even though I’ll I have my entire music library and a handful of tv shows already stored on my N97, I still won’t have to worry about running out of storage space as I have in the past. I also run a music website where I will be uploading the footage of the night for all of my readers. I just wrote this on Twitter via my current smartphone – the Nokia E71. Like I said a perfect example of how social these phones really are becoming.
Aditya also managed to verify there will be a “drag to unlock” feature on the N97 screen similar to the iPhone. See a picture of it below:

Very nifty feature for quick unlocking. You can also use the sliding mechanism below the keyboard.
