It’s no joke that the Nokia E71 is one of the most popular phones in the world right now.  The E71 is the most slick and elegant business smartphone I’ve seen, nothing in RIM’s arsenal comes close to the “looks” of Nokia’s flagship Eseries. The huge 1500mah battery, near perfect qwerty keypad, thin size/good weight, and extremely durable body are all major factors in it’s success. Not to mention the really cheap price point. You can pick one of these up for under $350 unlocked.

With that said the Nokia N97 seems to be stealing the hearts of many E71 fans. If you just search for “E71″ or “N97″ on the mighter Twitter  realm you’ll see all the buzz both devices are creating. Many people have been dying to see some side by side photos of the Nokia N97 and E71. I have also been on  the hunt for this comparison, especially since the E71 is my favorite phone of all time.

This is where Paul Jacobson comes in. Today I discovered this article (and his blog) while searching for some new N97 video demonstrations. Paul has got his hands on the Nokia N97 and decide to take some photos of it lying beside is trusy E71.

Check out the embeded flash slideshow below to see the photos. (may not work in some rss readers)

N97 vs. E71 Photos

Great photos Paul, and great blog! Click here to see his 10 minute N97 video demonstration: First Impressions.

Bonus:

If you haven’t seen this “Making of the Nokia N97″ video yet – then you gotta check it out. It’s been spreading on youtube like wildfire. The video shows how much thought process went into designing the Nokia N97.

Are any E71 users thinking about jumping ship and picking up the Nokia N97?

Quck reminder: the Amazon.com N97 preorder page says “shipping in 2-4 weeks” so that might be a good sign. Click here for the details and pricing.

Are there any hopes of Nokia releasing the N97 in 16Gb or 8Gb variants?
32Gb is a little too much for some of us. And the price is a little too steep as well.
  • Nope, as of right now there is only one variant of the Nokia N97, besides the different bands. 32gb is one of their major selling points.
  • I hope my B'lore trip works out!!!
  • Hey Mike I'm glad you finally started this site.....................I'll get back to you in 2 weeks...............
  • where have you been buddy? been worried for you! hope you are doing good!??
  • Hi buddy,

Yeah it's about time I finally got this site off the ground. I'm just waiting on the header that tehk7 is working on. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you bro!
  • @MikeMacias, @Pauljacobson guys, couldnt agree with u more. Each time I read and see pics of the N97 the more I wana have it. It would be a great device for emails (NokiaMessaging), facebook, twitter, music/multimedia and general usage. I also agree with prev poster that my E71 is horrible with Facebook (unless Nokia design a proper facebook app).

My work cellphone (currently using the E61) is up for an upgrade, all I need to do is ask my A/c manager to delay the upgrade - and wait for the N97. Unless ofcourse I win it in the Search for N comp. Once agin, great job Paul!

Just a question though, u said something about the N97 having three memories, would u please explore that further?

    Thanks :-)
  • The N97 will have a 32gb internal hard drive. 128mb internal memory. microSDHC memory card slot - can hold the new 16gb SanDisk cards. That's 48gb - can you handle it!
  • I watched this video and think the same thing I think about my E71. The people talk about what is on the OUTSIDE. But I also have to look at the software. On the E71, I have described the UI as 'Soviet Era' ugly. From what I could see in this video, the N97 carries on the same tradition.

Nokia has to understand that in the US market, the software is AS important as the hardware. My E71 is great for surfing the web - it truly is. It's a good phone. It is a horrible Facebook phone. It is a HORRIBLE email phone.

I like my hardware as much as the next guy. But until Nokia comes up with decent icons that don't look like the red-headed stepchildren of Windows Mobile, they are not going to make a splash in the US.
  • As great as the E71 is, I am really excited about the N97. I love the slim form factor in the E71 but the N97's media capabilities are very appealing. I can see myself using an N97 as my one device.
  • Yeah the E71 is one of the best sized phones I've ever owned. The N97 - if made SOLID, will be fine with it's form factor. If it's as weak as the N95 was then that's gonna suck, but it seems that it's not like that. Great review by the way.
