N97 Homescreen Video Review: Organize The Widgets Your Way

by Mike Macias on May 26, 2009

Last week here at N97 Fanatics we talked about some of the applications that you’ll be able to have on your N97 homescreen straight out of the box. I was pretty happy to see that quite a few will be available and ready to use.  Just in case you’re not familar with the N97 homescreen yet, they are application shortcuts known as widgets are live – meaning they can show you bits of information from an application that is running in the background. The great thing about these widgets is they can be re-positioned based on your personal preference.  This allows for ultimate customization of the N97 homescreen applications, widgets, and shortcuts.

Lester Chan, who is a well known tech blogger, presented his readers with a few videos recently showing off various aspects of the Nokia N97. One that caught my eye was the video about organzing the homescreen widgets.

Check out the video below:

Pretty good demonstration. Thanks Lester!

How will you organize your homescreen?

From looking at the screenshot courtesy of The Symbian Blog we’ll have five slots from top to bottom we can control when the N97 is standing upright. Here’s what I would do on a normal day:

Slot 1 – Latest emails
Slot 2 – Calendar entries
Slot 3 – Music Player
Slot 4 – My favorite RSS Feeds
Slot 5 – My favorite Contacts

You’ll notice I didn’t had add a standard shortcut bar. I’d rather have my favorite apps placed in the root menu of my N97. They’ll still be only one click away. On days when my favorite sports teams are in action I can add a sports ticker to my N97 homescreen to keep up with the game when on the go.

Let us know what your ideal setup would be!
