This is the first installment of the Email Solutions for N97 Fanatics series hosted here. We’ll be covering various email apps & solutions for the Nokia N97.
Nokia smartphone users will never stop looking for the perfect email solution. There is always something that should be tweaked or fixed to make things more perfect, but no company completely follows through. I’m a huge fan of Nokia Messaging but they still haven’t fixed a huge flaw – over one week my C: drive is eaten up by emails – around 12mb worth. That’s after a big cleanup and it can’t happen on the already small phone memory of the N97. This glaring problem got me looking for another solution which brings me to today’s article about Emoze.
Emoze has been around for awhile and over time they have added more features and updated their application to make it running faster, smoother, and more efficient.
What can Emoze do?
A ton. Adding Facebook messages to their arsenal really sets them apart from other solutions. Die-hard Facebook fans can now get notified and respond to Facebook messages instantly from their N97. For business users OWA (Outlook Web Access) is a must-have and currently the only way to get it on Symbian devices like the N97 is through Emoze. I’ve used this in the past and it works very well.
There is a free version which allows one email account. You can also go Pro for 10 Euros a year or 5 Euros for six months. If you need your Facebook messages or OWA accounts then 10 Euros is a small price to pay for this service.

How Does It Work?
I’ve been testing Emoze for the past 24 hours on my Nokia N97 and so far the results are good. Email arrives in my inbox immediately and syncs with Gmail immediately. Contacts say they got my email within 20 seconds when sending a response. There are tons of settings to choose from including how far back to get emails.
A few big positives for me:
- Works well with the N97 homescreen widget (if no other email client is installed).
- Allows you to store application & emails on the mass memory drive unlike Nokia Messaging.
- Option for new message notification when it arrives. The notification will come to the top of any application.
- Uses small amount of RAM. It’s showing 132 bytes for me right now with Gmail connected.
- Creates new email folder in the Messaging application.

A few negatives:
There are a few things that I’d like to see changed in the next version of Emoze.
- Kinetic scrolling is there in the email list (top right). But when reading an email (bottom left) you must use the scroll bar to move up and down. Not a major pain but it gets old.
- No reply/trash shortcuts when reading an email. Notice the buttons on the right side in the email lists screenshot? Those are awesome! Now look at the screenshot on the bottom left where I’m reading an email. No buttons! For any options like REPLY I must go to the options first. Very unintuitive.
- If you turn off the popup notifications for new emails then you won’t even get a beep or sound notification. If I don’t like popup I should still be able to get a sound notification.
Final Thoughts
It’s nice to have all that space back on my C: Drive thanks to Emoze. I also love that it integrates with my default messaging application and is easy on the system resources.
