2 Great N97 Themes, “Lake” Makes Your Smartphone Look Like iPad

It’s been awhile since a Symbian S60 theme artist came up with something new that I really like. TehkSeven Jon has always been my favorite but he hasn’t made a Symbian theme in a long time. Damn I miss those! I recently came across Lake Theme by Larsson which resembles the iPad them found on Apple’s hot new gimic gadget. At first I was a little hesitant but now I’m glad I tried it out. The second theme I wanted to mention is called Pure. This is also by Larsson. It’s rather unique in that it uses bring greens, pinkish purples, and blues. The battery and signal meters are customized and I just love how much it changes the look of the rather boring Symbian S60 UI. This isn’t a theme I would keep on my phone for a long time, but it’s fun to look at every now and then. Check it out…

Happy New Year From The Fanatics Team! Free Theme & Blood Alcohol App

Happy New Year all of you fanatics! 2009 brought many good things to the mobile world, and I’m sure 2010 will be even better. Since the launch of the N97 this device has been through many ups and downs. It was so highly anticipated by everyone. Then when it finally landed, the horrible lack of RAM and no kinetic scrolling was a major buzz kill. A few weeks later the issue of a scratched camera lens came up and really gave the launch of the N97 a black eye. Since then Nokia has addressed these issues with firmware updates & warranty replacements/fixes. Those who held onto their N97 are probably content with their purchase like I am. Yes, you have to give it a little extra TLC but it’s worth it considering the near perfect form factor and build quality. With that said, we’d like to share with you a very nice New Years theme & an application that can come in handy for those who plan on bringing in the New Year with a few drinks.

2010 New Years Theme by Pizero

Why not celebrate the new year with this great theme called 2010 by Pizero. I think it looks absolutely incredible on my N97, and it even features the popular 7 icon set by TehkSeven. Take a look at how it looks on my N97 homescreen:

Drinking? Don’t Drive! Get The Blood-Alchohol Application For Your N97

It’s always smart on a night like this to either get a designated driver or pass out wherever you are partying. No need to put your life at risk and also those on the road. But in case you do have to drive, be sure to make sure your BAC (blood alchohol concentration) is below the legal limit. For most people anything more than You can do this by downloading the DrinkOrDrive application in the Ovi Store.

Thanks to the fellas over at Ovi Daily App, you can check out a detailed review of the DrinkOrDrive application. Here is an excerpt from the review:

DrinkOrDrive, a mobile app for Nokia touchscreen phones, can help. Based on your size, weight and what you’ve recently had to eat and drink, the app gives you a graphical Drive/Don’t Drive rating. If you merit a Don’t Drive warning, the app also tells you how long you should wait before driving.

When you launch DrinkOrDrive, you first select metric or imperial measures, and then enter your weight, height and sex. Next, you select the Drink menu to record your drink’s capacity, drink type (beer, liqueur, wine, etc.), and time — now, X minutes ago (where you enter a value for X), or a specific time.

While this application obviously has no gurantees, it at least gives you an idea on whether you should risk driving or not. If you actually have to check this application tonight, you may as well call a taxi.

N97 Firmware 2.0: Did Nokia Listen To tehkseven?

It’s no doubt that Nokia has heard our calls for big improvements in the N97 firmware. The N97 firmware version 2.0 -- due out in 4-5 weeks -- will essentially transform the whole N97 experience. We know this thanks to various reports from Nokia World last week. These updates include kinetic scrolling, ram management issues, and a big one for me -- long press for secondary functions on the keyboard. I can’t wait for this.

I can’t help but wonder -- did Nokia see this video that our favorite theme master tehkseven posted just under a month ago…

Maybe they did. Or they just read the Engadget article instead

But regardless of who Nokia is listening to -- at least they are hearing the cries…

Big Big…. BIG Things To Come

I’ve already posted about the N97 firmware 2.0 last week, but here is another video I found on the web today showcasing kinetic scrolling, album art in song lists and some new features that I haven’t heard about! As you scroll through contacts the letter of the alphabet you are on shows overlayed on the screen so you know if you are in the B, C, or D’s.

Props to Symbian World for capturing that footage.

I honestly can’t wait for this firwmare to drop. For those wondering - the N97 Mini will ship with this firmware out of the box.

My camera was fixed too! > Oh and did I mention the last N97 that I had was sent back to Nokia Care because of a scratched lens. Well they sent me a new N97 and to this day I have no scratches. Not sure what they changed but whatever they did -- it’s fixed!

A Theme Can Go A Long Way

Free Theme: Darkness By Babi

I’ve recently been looking for some new themes to add to my N97 and came across this Darkness theme and another which I’ll post later.

I like the pale blue used for the menu’s and the icons are a pleasant change from the norm. See below:

Dark N97 Theme: Is Your Phone Sketchy?

Do you ever get sick of classy and professional? Don’t get me wrong I love a clean theme, but sometimes I come across one that makes my device feel fun and carefree. Mr. Sauromatum has created a theme called “Black Sketch” which makes the entire Symbian UI powering your N97 feel like it was drawn out by hand. Add to that a great contrasting color set – black and white – and you have yourself a very plain yet creative theme.

Despite all the scratchy lines I’ve yet to find any bugs in this theme.

Personally I use the version with the default icons since I like having uniformity and the custom icon version doesn’t have many 3rd party icons I use.

I’ve been using this Black Sketch on my black N97 for a few days now and absolutely love it. I would also love to see Mr. tehkSeven steal this idea and create a sketch version of his own someday I’m sure it would come out fabulous.

Theme: Shi Makes Your N97 Look Like A Bloody Mess

Twilight who? One of my favorite shows on TV right now is True Blood featuring vampires, shape shifters, a sex goddess, and the humans (sometimes known as Fang Bangers). Before the show it was a series of books that my fiance has been reading for awhile. I was always skeptical of the story until I started watching the show. Check it out if you have HBO or $30 to drop on the 1st season on DVD. Don’t let the kids watch it.

What does this show have to do with my N97? A few weeks back my pal tehk released his latest theme called Shi which is by far his eeriest & creepiest theme to date. The blood red background and black accents fits perfectly when my current addiction to the show. I’m not sure if Mr. TehkSeven watches this show, maybe he was inspired by True Blood. Regardless, this theme kicks ass.

N97 Theme: Prestige Solace by tehkSeven With Custom Icons

About a month back I posted in the N97 Fanatics Forums about the Prestige Solace theme by tehkSeven. If you’ve followed my article’s in the past you’d know that I’m a huge fan of his themes. He pays very close attention to detail and creates his own unique icons.

Tehk recently updated his popular Prestige Solace theme to work even better on the Nokia N97. Below is a screenshot of my homescreen and the custom icons.

I made that screenshot image a large size so you can see the detail in the icons of my shortcut bar in the top right. From left to right I have the follow applications: Google Maps, Web Browser, Messaging, and Gravity (twitter app). All four of those icons different than the originals.

N97 Theme: Solstice By Pizero Brings The Summer To Your Smartphone

The sun of summer is officially here now that June gloom is finally over. What better way to welcome the change in weather than adding Pizero’s latest theme called “Solstice” to your Nokia N97. Solstice makes a beautiful grassy wallpaper for the homescreen and also shows in the background of menu pages.

Free Theme: Brighten Up Your N97 With Sunrise

The Symbian world is full of amazing theme makers that can transform your device into something even more beautiful and make it feel new again. Pizero is one of the top theme makers and he’s been busy working on themes specifically made for the Nokia N97 and Symbian S60 v5 phones. I was just browsing his site and came across this theme called Sunrise which looks amazing on the N97’s huge high resolution screen.

N97 Themes: tehkSeven Almost Ready With His Beautiful Symbian 5th Edition Creations

Upon release of the Nokia N97 there will be hundreds, if not thousands of themes ready to download. Just do a google search for “nokia 5800 themes” or “s60 v5 themes” and you’ll get tons of links. From the looks of it most themes for the Nokia 5800 will work perfectly on the Nokia N97 as well.

My favorite theme maker tehkSeven is working hard on his first Symbian 5th Edition theme, based off his “Prestige” theme which is a major hit amongst Nokia fans across the world. He just released a handful of screenshots of his upcoming theme release – and boy do they look great.
